Springing Forward - Democracy at work!!! |
|
Well it's April and that means that winter is behind us. Although when I looked out my window on March 20, the first day of Spring,
and saw snow still on the ground, I was quickly comforted by the bright sunshine. There is much to be thankful for. We are alive and well.
In the political arena we see the two main candidates delivering blow for blow. We see the country as evenly divided as it was back in
2000 with Bush v. Gore.
Russia had its elections and when the U.S. commented, it was basically told to shut up.
In Spain we saw democracy at work when the people decided that the Spanish government
had no business fighting in Iraq. What a blow it must have been
for the outgoing Prime Minister.
The date for handing over Iraq to the Iraqis is fast approaching. Will the Governing
Counsel be ready though?
The war on terror has been in progress now for over a year. Will it last forever?
When will we know it has ended?
Will American taxpayers have to keep belching out these billions annually?
And are we any safer today or have we
just ignited more hatred towards us?
So many questions, so much uncertaintiy, so much bloodshed.
In following the recent news out of Iraq any ordinary individual can see that
the war is far from over and that many more lives will be lost. In the end only the
historians will be able to put it all in perspective.
Finally, with all the outbursts first from former Treasury Secretary, then now from Dick Clark,
what is the 9/11 Commission going to tell us? I believe that neither Presidents could have prevented
9/11. President Bush should release the release thousands of
documents that detail the Clinton administration's focus on fighting terrorism to the commission investigating the
attacks of September 11. If not the President might appear to be more concerned with protecting his
image than with allowing the commission to complete its work and determine the best way to protect
America from future terrorist attacks.

Words With Stephen |
The works you've written are numerous, ranging from short stories to even the novel,
hidden in a storage bin (under the bed) collecting dust. But there comes a time when
you must wipe away that dust, regain your pride, and prepare your babies for publication!
But, how do you get such a critical, unbiased eye to analyze your works, offering both
praise and criticism?
It's simple-start a writing group!
Creating a writing group is the easy part, but creating a functioning and beneficial
writing group can be quite a task.
Writing groups are age-old sessions where writers obtain helpful evaluations
for their works. Nowadays, though, writing groups seem to be a fad, and for many
a status symbol reassuring them of their writerdom. Don't create a writing group
simply for the sake of saying, "I belong to a writing group". Create or join a
group because of the numerous benefits that come along with them. Continue

Adventism's Thirty-Years Worship War: Will the New Church Guidelines on Music Bring Harmony? |
|
For some reason, music has been one of the most misunderstood facets of the controversy between good and evil. It is one of those areas that just doesn’t seem to get onto most people’s moral radar. The majority are content to let natural inclination be their guide and perhaps some do so innocently enough, having never given it much thought nor having been exposed to proper instruction on the topic.
Those that become aware of the issues and advocate changes publicly, soon find themselves embroiled in an all-out war of opinion, personal tastes, strawman arguments, and worse. Without proper understanding and biblically-based guidance, members and church leaders are left to fend for themselves.
Most Seventh-day Adventists (along with most other Christians, for that matter) would agree that the moral fabric of society has deteriorated with accelerating rapidity over the past 100 or so years. Thinking Christians readily recognize that the popular music of this era serves as both an indicator of as well as a powerful agent of change in contributing towards this decline.

Ten Reasons Not to See “The Passion of the Christ” |
It is a fact widely ignored, though never without danger, that error rarely
appears for what it really is. It is by mingling with or attaching itself to truth
that it gains acceptance. The eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil caused
the ruin of our first parents, and the acceptance of a mingling of good and evil is the
ruin of men and women today. The mind that depends upon the judgment of others is
certain, sooner or later, to be misled. (Ellen G, White, Education
, p. 230).
I have found ten reasons why this Hollywood production should not be seen.
- Based on the reviews which I have read and had related to me, it is not faithful to the Bible account.
- It is a glorification of Mary (very Catholic in this). In nearly every review, it is Mary that is mentioned along with Jesus.
- It invents scenes that are not in the Bible (Mary's flashbacks, and Veronica, for examples).
- It does not take into account the additional light from the Spirit of Prophecy insights.
It is a gross and complete mischaracterization of the death of Christ.
- It cannot depict the wrath of God against sin. Christ's death is not only about the wrath of man against God, but the wrath of God against sin. This is not about a man who died a horrible first death, but about God's Son, who suffered the second death.
- It is a false representation of Jesus. NO human can correctly portray Christ with His looks of genuine love, sorrow, compassion, forgiveness, peace, humility, etc. The “jesus” this movie portrays is the “jesus” invented by Satan to prepare the masses to accept him when he counterfeits Christ's coming. This is an impure, unclean, imperfect “jesus” that could be acceptable only by those who do not know the real Jesus.
- It cannot begin to reveal the real suffering of Christ, which was not physical, but primarily the suffering of love from a broken heart. It can not portray the real suffering of Christ and His Father at the separation sin caused between them. It cannot reveal the anguish of Christ as He sees Satan taking control of those He is dying to save. It cannot show the pain that Jesus experienced whenever He witnessed sin, the pain even He never fully concealed.
- It can not portray the depth of passion and hate of the Jewish leadership nor the frenzy of the mob, whipped up by Satanic beings in human form.
- It can not properly portray the followers of Jesus with the full emotions of utter disillusionment, surprise, disappointment, and depression.
- It can not depict the terror and guilt of the multitudes as the earthquake strikes, nor the judgments of God against the city of Jerusalem as the lightening flashes moved from Calvary to Jerusalem.
- It does not portray the searching of Scripture that the death of Christ engendered, nor does the movie, create a thirst for Bible study.
It appeals to the “feelings” of the viewers.
- Viewers may confuse a sense of sympathy for Jesus for a genuine religious experience built on faith. Jesus warned the women weeping for Him, “Weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children” (Luke 23:28).
- Viewers may also confuse an emotional high, with tears, for a genuine surrender of the life to Jesus. When the high wears off, as it will, viewers ever after may seek further emotional highs and consider nothing less than this to be a genuine experience. Viewers may be less responsive to the genuine gospel story and consider it boring, since it doesn't stimulate the senses in a sensational (and harmful) way (see #7 below).
It confuses the external appearance for internal reality. |

NY's Fourth Department Notches it Up!! |
|
On March 22, the Fourth Department issued a 3 to 2 decision in Matter of Nancy E.H. and Sheila M.S.,
holding that 2 unmarried adults may jointly adopt a child who is the biological child of
neither of them.
In Matter of Jacob (86 NY2d 651), the New York Court of Appeals held that the unmarried partner
of a child's biological parent has standing to adopt the child under Domestic Relations
Law §110. The Court of Appeals expressly left unanswered the question decided by the Fourth
Department today.
Petitioners in this adoption proceeding are professional women in their forties who seek
to adopt a child born in Cambodia on May 20, 1998. Petitioners have resided together since
1981 in a committed relationship, and publicly demonstrated their commitment by
participating in a "Commitment Ceremony" recognized by the Episcopal Church and by
registering as domestic partners in the City of Rochester. In 1996 petitioners became the
adoptive parents of another child in separate proceedings when that child was an infant.

Life Issues Pt.1 - Success
Copyright © Nicholas Dixon
Hello everybody and a good day (or night !) to you all. My name is Nicholas Dixon and I am in my early twenties and I reside on the beautiful island of Jamaica. I work full time in a public library, but in my spare time I design and market websites. I personally think that it is fun to help my fellow brother or sister to get what they want out of this life.
Success. What a powerful word and so sought after, yet it is so elusive to so many of us. If you look carefully at my personal quote on my website, you will realise that it contains a lot of truth. Success is never achieved by thinking of your own wants and needs, but by thinking about other people's wants and needs. Have you every notice that the more you give of yourself, the more you have to give ? This is called the law of abundance, the more you give the more you receive.
Believe me my friend, this is one of the most fundamental keys to success along with hard work and perseverance. When you apply these steps to your life, I am sure that you will find it fuller and more richer than before.
Once I was “down on my face” and living life everyday without any meaningful purpose and going through a lot of personal torment. I used to believe that happiness came from the things and people that surround me, but oh what a terrible mistake !! As Woody Allen puts it, “The talent of being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, not what you don't have”. The morale to that is quite simply, learn to love and believe in yourself. Learn to believe in the word believe, because it is a powerful word. It breaks down all barriers and removes all fears once firmly established in the mind and will not stop in the path of any obstacle. Believe in your dreams my friend because it is the basis of your success.
One last thing I would like to mention is a mental-spiritual theory called Positive Thinking. Positive thinking, my friend is simply recognising the negatives in life but refusing to dwell on them. Some people may argue at this point that I am being unrealistic by doing that and that it may not work. But believe me my friend it does work, but only if you give it a try from the bottom of your heart. Try giving yourself daily “mental cleansing “ so as to clear your mind of any negative thoughts that might exist in it.
The positive thinker always stays on top of his game, always triumphing in the end.He refuses to lose, but if he does lose, he goes after his prize again and again. He does not lose heart when he fails, because he knows that the real failure comes when he does not learn from his mistake.
The positive thinker views each day as a new opportunity to make himself and the world in which he lives a better place. Being positive minded makes the difference if you are going to be sad or happy, bright or dull, dreary or cheery, productive or non-productive.
This is not simply to do, but when practise regularly it becomes quite natural. This is key to Positive Thinking because what a man thinketh that is what he will become. If you think about small things you will achieve small things, but if you do it the other way around you will be surprise at how life can be to you.
At the end of the day, when you have reconditioned your mind, buy yourself or a friend a
gift so as to show your apprecation. This can be in the form of anything, as long as you
it makes you feel good about your self which is the reason of this article. Until then peace
and I hope that you will put into action what you have just read.
