The Story And The Mastermind
Behind 'A Latino Story About Love, Sex, Lust & Greed' By Dwight Day
The author, Ecuadorian Richard Zapata-Muzzio, now 21 years old, a Forensic Psychology major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, dedicates the story to all his fellow Latinos struggling for a better tomorrow, to the Latinas, who at a young age have children, to the Latinos making something out of themselves, for all those that struggled in the story and for those not with us anymore. When Church &
State Intertwine The Sexual Crisis in the Catholic Church By David Johnson The recent news headlines have been dominated by deviant sexual behavior in the Catholic Church. Captured in the headlines is the very sad news, that perhaps up to seventy priests in the Archdiocese of Boston have abused young people whom they were supposed to serve. It's a huge scandal by any means, one which could not only further throw religious practices into skepticism but could also overshadow the teachings of the church, along with those who have given their lives to the teaching of Christ. Through no fault of their own, many of the victims who have been abused found themselves caught up in a whirlwind of media exposure. They felt going public was their only way to achieve peace of mind and to help protect young Catholics, from experiencing the same mental trauma they had suffered. The senseless abuse they have encountered from those who were placed to lead and educate them spiritually should not go unpunished. These acts occurred when these individuals were young and naive to the sexual pleasures of a grown person. COMPLETE STORY |
June's
Thoughts -- It's been a Year!![]() The past few weeks have been really overwhelming. We had to hear about the sexual behavior of many Catholic priests, then we had to deal with threats of terrorism almost daily, then of course there is the ongoing Middle East crisis. Then race was thrown into the the mix when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that the University of Michigan Law School can consider race as one of many factors in its admission decisions in order to produce a diverse and inclusive student body. Now with a split among the circuits it's certainly on a fast track to the Supreme Court which will be asked to definitively rule whether institutions of higher learning can weigh race in admission decisions. Is this the affirmative action debate all over again? What the hell is going on? Is it the end times? Or is it just the way we humans function at our best?
For those of you who drop me a line occasionally, I enjoy reading your e-mails and notes. For those of you who drop by YAD Chat in the evenings, I enjoy talking to you as well. And as usual a big shout out to the students at the Mango Tree University. You keep me laughing. It's exciting to know that we started exactly one year ago when I was left with nothing to do following the demise of FLAYVA Online. Time really flies by. Well thanks to all those who supported and continue to support us. Please keep visiting the site and don't forget to spread the word. We have kept all our past issues so be sure to check out the archives. Well it's summer. Time to grab the bathing suits and trunks and head to
the beach or pool or lake. And if you don't have access then just head outside. Don't
forget the sun block for those who need it. LOL!! Have a great month people, and as they
would say in that caribbean land of my birth, "nuff respect!" |

| Jigga-who?
Jigga-what? Learning to Question your Elephant Child By Stephen E. Jordan, II Having problems writing? I dont know why. San Francisco Chronicle columnist Jon Carroll writes up to five columns a week. So, if he can write five columns, we should be able to write a five-lined poem with easebut that does not always seem to be the case. I have six humble serving men Aside from this inspiration, Im more than sure that two incentives for Jon Carroll are 1.) creating deadlines and 2.) his salary! (Yes, we writers DO get paid every now and then!) |

..
. Many Jamaicans who grew up in the 1970s can remember these words and the warm and melodious voice of Miss Lou on a Saturday morning as she leads a studio full of children through their paces on the popular television programme Ring Ding on JBC Television. Miss Lous Ring Ding provided a forum for teaching and learning Jamaican folk songs and dances, telling folk tales and a platform for lively entertainment showcasing young talent using the wonderful aspects of the Jamaican culture. |

Make sure to check out this month's column. |
Outrage of the Month Have you had enough of credit issuers taking advantage of the less creditworthy among us? I got so upset one day last week when I received such an offer. By the way I do not need any more credit cards. It was a Visa credit card from Plains Commerce Bank in Hoven, SD. The Annual Percentage Rate was a whopping 19.92%. And as if that by itself was not bad enough, there was a one-time acceptance fee of $225, a one-time application fee of $75 and a monthly participation fee which was annualized to $72. Your initail credit would be $300 and that meant that when u got the card you would already be in debt and your available credit would be $19. Again, capitalism ought to be good, but I still have to stop and pause. Are we so desperate that we leave ourselves open to be taken advantage of like this? Is there no one out there able to voice their disgust at this prcatice? Obviously this is trageted at certain individuals. I doubt that Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey would be the ones considering this offer. Damn it! It's time Big Business stop munching off poor people's asses. |
